Nico Nico Choukaigi – CHOU PARTY!!

Well, I just finished watching DAY 2 of Chou-party (yea, this time its divided into 2… and each is longer than previous concerts Nico has had) and all I have to say is… IT BEAT MY EXPECTATIONS!

Though I only paid 1500yen since i bought the online tickets two months or go rather than the 3000yen you have to pay if you bought it in the past week. That’s all I can say about the money side of this thing (WHY AM I EVEN TALKING ABOUT MONEY IN THE INTRO ANYWAY =.=) . Seems like with this convention, the company in charge of Nico (dwango I think) has a loss of four hundred million yen =.=. And they haven’t really learnt anything because not only are they going to have another one but this time it isn’t to be set in one place but is going to be a Japan tour (called Nico Nico Choukaigi 町会議 – this time the ‘chou’ doesn’t mean super but town).

… … Anyway! Back to the details of the concert:

Quick Summary of New Stuff Revealed –

• Nico is changing its version’s AGAIN from ‘Nico NIco Douga (Harajuku) to ‘niconico zero’. New stuff are like bigger video screen, like button for comments (Faceb*ok much?), sound file ripping directly from videos (no need to use nicosound) and more Nico live stuff that I’m not that into orz
• Collaboration with JAM PROJECT. Some kinda competition that allows you to become a sound producer for JAM. PRETTY COOL!
• VOCALOID GUMI is having a b-day concert for her 3 year anniversary
• Another thing about Vocaloid – Vocaloid keyboard from YAMAHA. Called Minoru 1 or something.

That’s enough about new functions etc. Onto the concert itself.

This Chou-party was part of the Nico Nico Choukaigi which is basically a convention full of Nico stuff (i think the latest Vocaloid master was held as an event). During the day you get concerts (even Shoko-tan came!) and to finish the day off you get Nico Chou-party. To live up to its name, unlike the previous concerts that are Utaite (Fan Covers) and Odorite (Fan Dancers ??) oriented, this time we have participants from all (read most) the categories that Nico has. So I’m guessing its easier if I format this post by dividing into these categories. Should be easier than talking about events in order. Everything was spread over the course of two days. (Efficiently called Nico Nico Chou Party FIRST NIGHT and SECOND NIGHT)

Kourin shitemita （降臨してみた）- The Descent

As the rather fancy title of this new category tells (FOR WHICH I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO TRANSLATE – GOOGLE TRANSLATE TAUGHT ME HERE)  all Nico fans were graced by the ‘descent’ of fairly well known celebrities. And yea… If Nico spent all its money on getting these people to come, it’s money well spent!ヾ(@゜∇゜@).

Notable People that came and their events:

JAM PROJECT – GONG AND SKILL! WHAT BETTER WAY IS THERE TO START THIS POST! Man! I would die in order to experience their singing live. Wow, they were way too epic. I watching in front of the screen and going ‘MOTTO MOTTO!’ along with the crowd (to which my friend next to me is like (・o・)  but who cares)!

fripside – Need I say more for their song? ONLY MY RAILGUN!! … I still wonder what the hell the english in the song means though. Considering that I’ve had a fair number of tries of this song at karaoke I know how f*cking high it is but she still managed to pull it off! WOW! There was also two members from odottemita (dancers) cosplaying as Mikoto and Kuroko which was pretty cool XD

Kyarii Pamyu Pamyu (きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ)　- I think there were about 5 times when people couldn’t pronounce her name right… So! The ex-Nico live broadcaster! Here she comes along with the Kyarii Kids (back-dancers that are still kids – THERE WAS EVEN A GUY O.o) with the rather meaningless (lyrics-wise) PONPONPON and CANDY CANDY! I dunno, I’m not sure if the comments were right but I’m guessing she’s one of the only performers who lip-synched. Her colourful costumes are best described to be on the same wavelength as Lady Gaga. … Except in this case, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Kyarii look-alike in the streets in Japan (probably around Harajuku).

Takahashi Youko （高橋洋子）– Combined with the fact that directly before, Tachiki (voice actor) parody dubbed the famous Evangelion scene between the first (?) meeting of Shinji and his dad, Gendou in the style of instructions before movies (like Shinji being told ‘you must not smoke in this hall’ while he’s holding Ayanami, and Gendou giving instructions for the concert to start etc), I am now desperate to watch the new movie coming next year. God, I might as well re-watch the entire series.

魂のルフラアアアアアン!!! – TAMASHII NO RUFULAAAANNN!!!

Lia – Tori no Uta (`・ω・́)ゝ Supposedly the anthem of Japan (in terms of Nico). AIR is a classic (though I still can’t stand the eyes -.- they stab into me). Although it was amazing throughout the whole concert, the CG Nico used just made the entire song even better. I mean, here you have Lia singing in her awesome voice with a curtain of white feathers flowing through the hall. I wouldn’t be surprised if she suddenly sprouted wings lol.

Billy Herringtion – SO! WE HAVE THE MEME IN PERSON! AND WOW IS HE LOVED! He gets the whole hall to give him a call of ‘ANIKI! ANIKI! ANIKI!’ as well as ‘YUGAMI NE~NA~!’ 「歪みねぇな」and ‘DARASHINE~NA’!「だらしねぇな」And when he asks for people to come onto stage in order to get spanked, practically everyone is offering to get a place. … and the winners must seriously love him since the guys (ALL GUYS NO GIRLS) hug him and one even kisses him on the cheek O.o … I recently realised he’s a Nico only meme (kinda) so to summarise… Billy Herrington is used as a way to troll people (think rick rolled) except rather than some retarded guy singing … its homoerotic wrestling clips. Brilliant eh!

Tachiki Fumihiko (立木文彦) – Voice actor known for his roles as Ikari Gendou (Evangelion), Madao (Gintama). Well, I thought he’s only going to be narrating all the commercial clips… and then he comes onto stage, gets a birthday shout from the crowd (it was his birthday – 29th) and as one of the last few acts he… SINGS!? His song choice is brilliant as well. 脱げばいいってモンじゃない！(Undressing isn’t really everything – or Shut up and Feel my Vibes / the first being my translation the second a lyrics site). So. It’s a song about a girl whose boyfriend doesn’t understand her ‘vibes’. Example of lyrics (from anime lyrics dot com lol) :

So yea, the speech marks are what the boyfriend says. … And in this case, Tachiki doesn’t sing them but rather recorded them beforehand so he’s speaking them O.o … … Um. Uhh. Right. … Hahahaha… Least the songs catchy! (￣ヘ￣;）! IF ONLY IT WAS SOME ANOTHER VOICE ACTOR WHO’S YOUNG ENOUGH TO BE IN OTOME GAMES! WAIT. I ACTUALLY DONT MIND OLD MEN VOICE ACTING! YEA! IMAGINE WAKAMOTO NORIO!!! DSADLKSADSALDN)

Other people include ℃-ute (an idol group), galaxias (Shibasaki Kou + DECO*27 + TeddyLoid), H ZETT M (a pianist), Mukaiya Minoru [向谷実] (some music artist – dunno him orz. He introduced the new Vocaloid keyboard),  Hirose Koumi [広瀬香美] (Promise / otherwise known as GETTAN! original singer. One of her singles became used as BGM to a popular meme), Fujiwara Arata (an marathon athlete who I think collected funds using the Nico live broadcast thing)

The iDOLM@STER

This category on Nico is basically … … all Idolmaster related stuff. Never really peaked in here that much with the few exceptions being EXTREMELY well made MAD’s…. I dunno. Since the anime last year (which was enjoyable) I guess there are more newcomers (me being one XD – I HONESTLY THINK MAKOTO IS AWESOME! I AM WAITING FOR AN OTOME GAME VER OF IDOLMASTER! JUPITER COME ON! YEAHAAA!)

So for the concert 4 voice actors came:

Okay, easiest way to understand this category is the Machinima gameplay videos you can find on Youtube. Like, they speak while they play a game. I guess it’s the category I’m addicted to recently since so far I’ve watched the complete playthroughs for Persona 4 (since i have no ps2 T.T), Ryuu ga Gotoku series (or Yakuza in the western world), Catherine (ATLUS!!!) and Assassins Creed.

Well, anyway. In Nico, these commentary people are kinda treated like idols (with a huge female fanbase) so I was quite interested in what the hell they’re going to do. And guess what they did? In front of a stage of around 6000 and 120,000 online… … THEY PLAY MUSICAL CHAIRS ! WTF! ！Σ（￣□￣;）

The rules are that the people who don’t get a chair play some random game on a console (Puyopuyo and some other old school fighting game) with the loser either getting kicked in the ass by some wrestler, being spanked with different ‘weapons’ by the Team Black Starz … or having to imitate someone of the audiences choice. … This wasn’t really that interesting to be honest. :/

Technology (ニコニコ技術部)

So for this section popular creations uploaded on Nico come give a show. Unless you’re really into it, it’s pretty hard to understand what’s interesting.

There was a miniature Gundam (with a guy inside), a Gunlance that shoots BB pellets, a ‘skelltnix‘ which is a machine that exaggerates human movement (a robot-suit in some ways) and finally

So some people decided to make a to scale Haribote Elegy! They even mimicked the fall as they left stage!

Performance (演奏してみた)

To be honest, Nico has too many pro people when it comes to music. But you have to say that they are all kinda odd.

Consider Tissue-hime (ティッシュ姫). Cosplays as Nagato, plays the bass, was the model for the Taiwan concert pamphlet and… … is a guy in his twenties O.o I mean, he suits Nagato cosplay more than most people. That’s just … … oh. AND HIS LEGS! ASDSKAJDAS =.=

So the performers had different medleys (touhou, anime, Vocaloid etc). Instruments played include piano, violin, Shamisen, a metal rod (lol – he flings it to get different notes), Otama (a toy which is supposed to look like a tadpole and works like a keyboard recorder) and some guy who uses his ass to play castanets. I love all the performers but have to ask why they invited a porn star =.= I mean, here you get brilliant music and then suddenly there’s this woman who starts mounting the guitar causing a racket . … Sigh

I have to mention that one of the best performances was that of ‘Bad Apple‘. There’s this arrangement with only traditional instruments which was then covered with a arrangement of traditional Japanese language. This added with a kinda dance in a kimono (by a real life Alto – guy who plays the role of a woman in kabuki). You can’t beat it!

RAP (ラップしてみた)

Normally this is part of Sing (Utattemita) but was given a separate category this time. Songs covered include Technobreak, AaAaAaAaAaAaAa, Ikasama Life Game, Rolling Girl, Sweet Devil and finally Audience wo Wakasu Teido no Chikara.

To be honest, the only rappers I actually like on Nico is Rap-bit, Taitsuon and Boron so yea… Not much to say for this section.

Sing (歌ってみた)

Probably the category I go to the most XD Well, the only reason I decided to watch this was because my fav cover singer was participating!

There were 24 members overall with them mostly covering Vocaloid songs. I’m just going to write down a quick summary orz

REN (【蓮】)  – The sole reason why I’m even into Nico! lol. God he’s awesome! He came on as a duet with Dasoku (1122 – typical) and gave show to  his B’z like style of singing! Songs were DOGS and Eh! Aa Sou.

L.I.N.E (Che:sakurai & HYBRID SENSE) – Is it possible for this person to be an amateur!? God, she’s one of the ‘両声類’ (Both Gender Voices) that Nico is known for (I mean, Pico became a pro with his feminine voice). She was epic. Too epic. And hot! And she was probably the best singer live (after JAM of course). Tokyo-to Rock City! (though I would have loved it if Valshe sang it -,-)

Shounen T (少年T) – Succeeded in being angelic. Surprisingly. I guess he is a 3D version of Kazehaya (Kimi ni Todoke) who he’s often symbolised by in choruses. Ai kotoba!

Kouhei (鋼兵) – I guess he’s the closest person on Nico to be like JAM. I mean, he was one of the finalist to become a member of the group. It’s shocking about how high his voice can go. MEGU MEGU FIRE ENDLESS NIGHT! MOTTO MOTTO! MAKKA NA CHIKAIIIIIII!!!

96Neko (96猫) – Personally, I don’t like her enough to be called to be called a fan. (Her fans are scary – also the reason why I’m giving her a summary lol) She was cool I guess with the lip piercing + chain. Yup really punk like. I found it pretty cute how she was wearing extremely high boots to make up for her height ＾▽＾ She sang Melancholic

√5 (Dasoku, Pokota, koman, Mii-chan + Kettaro) – Well, after point.5 they decide to make another group called root 5. Very similar right (more like 2 members are the same). Still. MERRY GO ROUND is a REALLY good song. MAWARE~ MAWARE~ MERRY GO ROUND~! And the band members are rather interesting. Koman seemed keen to fool around with Pokota + Kettaro. And Mii-chan and Dasoku are standing at the edge like the old men they are…  lol

Da-Little, halyosy + Shirofuku (白服) – Our favourite member from Perfumen appears on stage for the second day to sing! YEA! (though I like mask #2 more). Their cover of Kamikyoku was amazing! Especially how they inserted Amazing Grace into it. lol.

Aki Akane (秋赤音) – Otherwise known as ‘Screaming Cinderella’ (絶叫シンデレラ) for her style of singing, I was looking forward to seeing her (since she’s supposedly recently graduated from high school). She also released a pro debut album (?) or something like that. Anyway… What we get instead is her singing in a box with her silhouette shown by the lighting O.o. A little disappointing but at the end of the song, Rolling Girl, she rips the box open and comes out in a badass mask. That’s how you leave in style!

Takabi (たかび) – What better way to finish but the arrangement of the ‘Nico Nico Douga’ tune! Even the hall was singing with him. He also uploaded a new video after 2 years of a hiatus! YEA!

Dance (踊ってみた)

Being reminded of this category is killing me. … T.T My internet failed on me so I wasn’t able to watch or record one of the dance oriented performances (Ikasama Life Game).

Apart from that, most of the dancers appeared on stage at the same time as the singers so I was pretty frustrated that they barely got any screen time. True the camera panning is cool but they might as well show us right!?

During the concert, I realized that I seem to like group performances better so the dances by Nyantaro Project (にゃんたろproject) and TEAM BLACK STARZ. GROUP PERFORMANCES ARE AWESOME! Nyantaro did Kitsune no Yomeiri (with OSTER PROJECT playing the keyboard) and BLACK STARZ did Airman.

orz. Yet to get enough knowledge about the performers. Though I was looking forward to the ‘Sensei to Boku‘ duo (a secondary kid with his dance teacher) and seemed to miss is completely. *cough* I am not a shotacon!

Entertainment (エンターテインメント)

To be honest, the only things I watch in this category are text videos of retardedly hilarious responses you find on 2chan. So even if there were popular performances to come out, I wouldn’t be able to recognise them.

There were only 2 performances, one guy (藤山晃太郎 – Fujiyama Koutarou) who rotates in this metal circle to the song of Double Lariat (which is about rotating) and another guy (十三代目冷奴 – Jyuu Sandaime Hyayakko) who gave some Rakugo-type parody of Madoka Magica.  Pretty cool I guess.

Live Broadcast (ユーザ生放送)

This isn’t even a category of Nico-vid. It’s a complete different section called Nico-live. Well, these people are kinda treated like idols as well. (more like, Nico is a site where normal amateurs are loved like idols =.=)

1: A group competition between broadcasters in order to find the funniest response to a certain topic.

アホの坂田(Aho no Sakata) – A Sugita Tomokazu imitator (namely Gin-san from Gintama)

ぶいら (Buira) – A Russian guy who grew up in Japan. … … Um, yea, he played around with a pan on his broadcast making him popular

Q-CHAN牧師 (Q-chan Bokushi) – A real priest. … Most of his responses were – Lets make a church in the next Nico Convention! Here! Let me exorcise this hall from Evil Spirits AMEN!

コレコレ (Kore Kore) – Spent the whole time whining about Mikeneko (another broadcaster) not coming. Then casually reveals that he has a wig on. O.o Which then gets put on Q-Chan’s head because he was too annoying.

2: A group competition between broadcasters known for voice imitation. THIS. WAS. AMAZING! WOW! I mean, I only knew this one guy called Jyun Jyun who’s known for mimicking Shizuka-chan from Doraemon. The following were the acts:

じゅん☆じゅん (Jyun Jyun) – Full cast from Chibi Maruko-chan

おーくまねこ。(Oo Kumaneko) – Cosplayed as Jack Sparrow. Performance was an all-star from Tokyo Disneyland from Mickey Mouse to the guide voicing in Space Mountain. My favourite was his facial imitation of Thwomp (block in Super Mario that attempts to crush Mario + changes expression). I voted for him XD

ナオキ兄さん (Naoki Niisan) – Came dressed as Piccolo but ended up imitating various characters as well as Cell from Dragonball (what was the point of the cosplay? He even colours himself green =.=)

志麻 (Shima) – He did a wordplay game using different characters from recent anime’s. Gin-san, Shinpachi, Prince Hata, Doraemon, Solid Snake, Orihara Izaya.

In the end Jyun Jyun won. … (I’m assuming it’s because of the idol treatment he gets =.= Well, he was good I guess)

3: 浅井さん Arai-san! Or known as Hako no Hito (the box man). There was this live broadcasting competition last year for most interesting broadcast and he managed to get MVP as well as an invitation to the Choukaigi! Though he never expected that he’s to perform. So he basically makes things out of cardboard boxes. This time he brought a cardboard guitar, a cardboard Shamisen (which he uses to join in to the musical medley lol), a Zan’pako’tou with the bankai ability that … smells nice (he put aroma oil on it) and a cardboard gun that shoots bb pellets! I WANT!

Touhou Project (東方)

Apart from the fact that it’s some kinda shooting game, I have no idea what Touhou is. I know that it uses a couple of cute girls as characters so I’m assuming it has a similar system to how Vocaloid got popular using Miku as an virtual idol. Anyway, despite not knowing what exactly it is, I know a couple of Touhou songs such as Bad Apple … and… um. .. Night of Nights?

Since I have no knowledge of the singers I was shocked when female singers came on in typical Japanese High school uniform. … How old are they? miko×IOSYS and Silver Forest came. The songs they did were Sweet Little Sister,  Kero @ Destiny and Chiruno no Kanpeki Suugaku Kyoushitu

AND FINALLY! IT WAS THE STAGE FOR BEAT MARIO MOTHER! I DONT CARE IF SHES … … PROBABLY AROUND 50 YEARS OLD. (BBA lol) SHE WAS ADORABLE! Ever since I watched her video I absolutely love her so was delighted to know that she’s going to perform in the concert! Her duet with her son was cool as well!.

Well, need I spend time on explaining what a Vocaloid is? XD

I’ve watched the DVD for some previous miku concerts but this time! EVEN KAITO APPEARED! DSADSANDSAKDSAD

Since its projections (though the audience may not want to accept it – the guest MC was corrected to say that the Vocaloid were physical there), they didn’t really need any breather time making everything rather fast paced. THEY CAN EVEN CHANGE COSTUMES IN A SECOND which makes everything badass! O.o

Sigh, to be honest the Vocaloid that stood out most within the concert was … … Not Miku, not Kaito, the twins or GUMI but Gackpo lol. I mean, since the motion for the dance were all taken by ones choreographed by Nico dancers, we get Gackpo in the motion of DANCEROID (a girl group). … and yea. He’s wearing a suit while doing all these feminine actions. Wasn’t sure how to respond. lol. It ended perfectly with ‘Tell Your World’

*MMD

Wasn’t sure what to categorize it as but since all the winning videos were Vocaloid I’ll mention them here. The projection was also (probably) created using MMD (Miku Miku Dance).  I don’t really like MMD that much since they … look kinda retarded (especially the characters with long hair – e.g. Lily looks like she has spaghetti more than hair and Miku’s pigtails are probably blunt weapons.

Anyway, there was a competition held prior to the convention and the winning ones came on stage.

There was also news of some kinda movie (meaning longer than 70 mins) being made using MMD with popular Nico users voice acting (LIKE REN!! YEA). Called ‘Doukoku no Nightmare’ (慟哭のナイトメア). From the short cm, I only really remember the word … ‘admiring an idol’ and ‘fighting against copyright infringement’. Well, that’s about it.

There were some random events that I don’t know which category they fall into such as a Taiko no Tatsujin competition. One contestant is supposedly 4th nationally but he didn’t really get first place. I mean, one mistake and he goes off doing Otaku Dancing. Doesn’t help that he’s in hadaka-apron (skirt type) gear. The competition was to play ‘Hatsune Miku no Soushitsu’ (初音ミクの消失 – the Disappearance of Hatsune Miku) which is hard to play on the psp diva game or even to follow the lyrics because of the speed. Congratulations to the people who managed to get full combo. I would never be able to pull it off lol.

I started blogging this as soon as it finished. … And I’m currently in school the next day finishing it T.T Guess a long concert over 2 days isn’t THAT good then. I spent my weekend watching this so didn’t really do any work. Sigh, I need to catch up.

ENOUGH WHINING FOR ME! NO ONE’S INTERESTED!

So! I am planning to upload this concert as well. (similar style as Nico concert 凹 a while ago) but I have to edit the size and all that confusing stuff. Should be up by this week though.

Finished editing the videos (like trimming the recording program logo + compressing overall). FIRST NIGHT has 32 performances, 36 parts compressed, with a total of 7.26GB (was about 13GB in the beginning T.T). LAST NIGHT has51 parts (not compressed yet) with a total of 9.48GB (i think the original was about 19GB – deleted all the unessessary stuff T.T). Currently uploading on mediafire:

Unlike the first night, the last night had about 50 events meaning 9gb if its the same quality as the first night videos. So yea, i’m currently uploading them as single video but with password protection.

…i played around with loads of different file types to see what can get decent file size and decent quality. Anyone got any recommendations?

Remember me saying something about Danmaku ? The curtain of comments that surround the screen… Despite the fact I never put comments on screen. … … My computer lags for loads of videos to the point that some performances I didn’t even see. I was frustrated as shit but had no idea how to fix it T.T So until a better source comes out, you’ll have to bear with the shit quality.
